About

Heidi Tanner

Heidi Tanner was raised in the Detroit Metropolitan area. During Heidi’s youth she witnessed the injustices visited upon the underprivileged and working class by the insurance industry and large corporations. Opposed to silent complicity, Heidi committed herself to advocating for those victims.

Heidi attended Wayne State University in Detroit where she achieved a Bachelors in Applied Science focusing her independent study on policy brutality and civil rights. She then attended Michigan State University-Detroit College of Law where she achieved her Juris Doctorate. During law school, Heidi acted as a Journal of Medicine and Law as an editor, as well as an ACLU and Public Interest Group member.

After being admitted to the Michigan State Bar in 2000, Heidi focused her practice primarily in personal injury and criminal defense. It was during these 19 years of practice she successfully argued the seminal case of Kalisz v MEEMIC Ins. Co wherein she proved that the asymptomatic congenital disorder of Chiari I Malformation can be exacerbated and/or aggravated by a traumatic event, i.e., an automobile accident, making it compensable under the Michigan No Fault Act.

Heidi is licensed both in Colorado and Michigan. She lives in Douglas County with her husband, Andy, twins, Lilianna and Julian, and American Bulldog, Chaos. As a Detroit native, she is an avid Red Wings fan, loves live music and boxing, and enjoys high adrenaline outdoor activities.
