5 teens killed in fiery crash

Five Colorado teens were killed in a fiery crash on Oct. 2 in Elbert County near the county line with Arapahoe County. The accident happened on County Line Road after the teens had gone to visit the Third Bridge, which is also known as the Ghost Bridge.

Officers reported that the two-lane road is hilly. According to police, the car was traveling too fast for the two-lane rural highway. They are uncertain of how fast the car was traveling before the wreck because much of the evidence was destroyed in the fire. The Ghost Bridge, which is located 14 miles east of Aurora, is believed to be haunted. It was reportedly the site of a massacre of native Americans.

In 1995, another group of teenagers who were visiting the Ghost Bridge also crashed. In that case, their vehicle left the road, landing in a creek. Two girls lost their lives in the earlier accident, and local legends claim that the girls now haunt the bridge. Authorities said that speed was a factor in that wreck as well.

When people die in accidents caused by negligent drivers, the families of the victims may file wrongful death lawsuits against the drivers for their actions. When the drivers also die in the accidents, the families may name the driver's estate as the defendant of the lawsuit. This may allow the families to recover damages from the deceased driver's estate so that they may be compensated for their economic and noneconomic losses. Because there is a statute of limitations for filing these lawsuits, families might want to consult with personal injury lawyers as soon as they possibly can after the accidents.
