Play ball! Will baseball season see an increase in drunk driving?

The Colorado Rockies season has officially started. Baseball season marks the return of warmer temperatures and spending more time outside. It also leads to an increase in drunk driving accidents throughout the state.

Accidents involving alcohol-impaired drivers are not uncommon after baseball games. Some fans have too many drinks at the game and don't realize they are too impaired to get home safely. This is a serious safety risk for everyone on the road.

More than 150 people are killed in drunk driving car accidents every year in Colorado, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The CDOT reported that many males between the ages of 21 and 35 do not think they are impaired after consuming a few drinks. However, individuals can become impaired and unable to operate a vehicle safely after a couple drinks, depending on how fast they consume them and the amount of alcohol the beverage contains.

The finding that many individuals do not understand how few drinks it takes to cause impairment is not surprising. Many Colorado Rockies' fans drink alcohol during the game and get pulled over for driving drunk after leaving the game due to this very reason.

The dangers of drunk driving are well-known. Car accidents involving impaired drivers continue to cause catastrophic and fatal injuries, and the impaired driver is often not the only victim in these crashes.

Victims injured by drunk drivers may require long-term medical care and other expenses as a result of the crash. You have rights if you have been involved in an accident with a driving who was impaired by alcohol or drugs.

In addition the driver facing criminal charges, you may be able to file a claim against the negligent party to help pay for your injuries, lost wages and pain and suffering. Working with an experienced personal injury attorney can help you explore your legal options.
