Legal aftermath of Paul Walker's fatal car accident continues

The exact cause of a given car accident is not always clear. Working with experienced investigators often helps, but there are times when definitive answers are just not available.

That appears to be the case in the 2013 car accident deaths of actor Paul Walker and his friend Roger Rodas. The two men were traveling in Rodas' 2005 Porsche Carrera GT just after Thanksgiving in 2013 when they struck a concrete pole and several trees. The men were likely killed by a combination of impact forces and burns from a subsequent vehicle fire.

Since the tragic accident, many theories and explanations have emerged as to who may have been at fault for the crash. Authorities say that Rodas was driving between 80 and 93 miles per hour on a street with a 45 mph speed limit. Investigators also said that the nine-year-old tires on the vehicle may have contributed to the crash (the tires were old but apparently seldom used).

The families of the two victims have blamed Porsche for the accident, alleging that the high-end vehicle lacked some important safety features and suffered a suspension failure. Both Rodas' wife and Walker's daughter have filed lawsuits against Porsche.

And earlier this week, news sources revealed that Rodas' estate settled a lawsuit with Walker's 17-year-old daughter for $10.1 million, which likely had to do with the fact that Rodas had been driving that night. The settlement was actually reached about a year after the accident but was only recently made public.

Although it is unclear what will ultimately be learned about this fatal car accident, civil lawsuits often prompt deeper investigations into car crashes, which in turn may reveal important information that was previously unknown. When a loved one is killed, many families are seeking answers as well as compensation, and the help of an experienced attorney may yield both.
